TERRANO
Name of the wine and the grapes. The Terrano vine, which almost certainly had its origin in the Refosco d’Istria, grows on the red, rocky soil of the karst plateau, developing its own very peculiar characteristics of unique taste and aroma. Castelvecchio suggests two different ways of enjoying Terrano: young, from the last vintage (red cap), or aged. When young, it fully expresses its typical personality and it is reserved for those who appreciate its original characteristics.
It stands out for the exuberance of its malic acidity, the fragrance of wild raspberry and blackberry, and the typical deep ruby-red color with violet tinges. When aged, it loses its typical personality and takes on more traditional characteristics. It takes on a softer acid tang, its color fades slightly and the flavour reveals more rounded taste characteristics suitable for a larger public. The limited tannic content, modest alcoholic strength and sustained acidity make it a wine of medium structure ideal with cold cuts and typical local dishes of the Carso region. When young, this wine does not disdain the match with fat fishes, particularly eel.
Ideal temperature: 12° C - 14° C.
